Choices

The intention of my blog is to enlighten and inspire you with a topic I am passionate about and that you can apply to your personal and professional life.  This blog is on Choice, a concept I write about in my book “Stop Whining and Start Winning: The Power of Life’s Choices”.  If you like the message, please pass it on.

Zig Ziglar said, “You are free to choose, but the choice you make today will determine what you have, be, and do in the tomorrow of your life.”  Every day begins and ends with choices. Your attitude and life literally become the sum total of what you think, feel, who and what you attract, and the choices you make.  When you think good, feel good, attract good and choose good, you are more likely to create and get good.

I have heard it said that learning happens by force, by choice, and by being forced to make a choice. Whenever you try and force life or a relationship to work it becomes a grind. Grinding and forcing wears you out. Worn out doesn't work.  Surviving is not thriving.   Thriving results from being on the right side of your viewing, thinking and doing.

Eventually, everyone sits down at a banquet of consequences for the choices they make.  It is this simple.  Good choices, good outcomes.  Bad choices, bad outcomes. Choice is never neutral.

Every transformation in life begins from the right now of your life; not from your past.  There is a reason the rear-view mirror is smaller than the windshield.   If you don’t like where you are in the right now of your life, you can choose to change that.

No one’s life is spared a setback, disappointment, or loss.  You can choose to use them as an excuse to suffer, blame, or give up and give in; or you can be an over comer.  One serves you bitter.  The other serves you better.

Post on Success

This post is devoted to success.  If you like the message please pass it on. Let me be clear about it.  Success is not an entitlement.  In order to achieve it, the currency of toil must be paid.  The toil is hard work, preparation, planning, perseverance and a passionate commitment to excellence.  None of these currencies of toil ever hit the snooze alarm or take a nap.

It takes a full measure of effort to achieve success. Half measures will not get you there.  Success happens on purpose through effort, commitment and a can do attitude.  It is not realized by whining, blaming or giving up.  Nothing works in your life unless you do.  Never be stingy with your effort.

It isn't enough to decide you want to be successful.  You must do.  Goethe said, “Knowing is not enough; we must apply.  Willingness is not enough, we must do.”  Doing is a requirement for success.

Success doesn't just show up unannounced at your door and introduces itself to you.  It gets done by thoughtful and careful planning.  Zig Ziglar said, “Those who don’t plan for their future are not interested in their future.”  Success insists that you be interested in your future and to take the necessary action steps to ensure a successful one.

No one’s life is spared a setback, disappointment or loss.  Adversity introduces you to yourself.  Overcome or give up.  Can or can’t.  Sacrifice or regret.  Succeed or fail. The choice is yours.

The most successful people I know are passionate and love what they do.  They are passionate in their pursuit of perfection, even though they know perfection is rarely attained.  They are passionate about excellence and have no tolerance for mediocrity.  In their relentless pursuit of perfection and excellence they find success.  If you are not passionate about what you are doing and not committed to excellence, you will not find yourself on the right side of success.

Success is not always measured by net worth.  It is more often measured by the good you create with the success you have.  Harry Drummond said it best, “Half the world is on the wrong scent in the pursuit of happiness.  They think it consists of having and getting, and in being served by others. It consists of giving and serving others.”  Be a giver and not a taker.  It will serve you well.

Your level of success will be determined by your level of happiness. George Burns said it best when he offered this wisdom on failure and success.  He said, “I would rather be a failure at something I enjoy than to be a success at something I hate.”  You have to love what you do to create success.

Blog on Happiness

This post is devoted to happiness.  If you like the message on happiness, please forward it to colleagues or friends you think may enjoy it as well.

Happiness is an attitude choice. The longer you defer making the choice to have a positive attitude and to be happy, the higher the price tag will be for finding either one of them.  You were created on purpose for a purpose, and are equipped, empowered and endowed to be happy anytime you make the choice to be.  It is not someone else’s responsibility to create the conditions and attract the right people in your life in order for you to be happy.  Happiness is a state of being only you have the power to create.

The search for happiness at empty stores, in clutter and more stuff, or in geographical and relationship cures is futile because it is never found outside of your true self. There may be many things in life you want but you don’t really need to be happy.  You may want a different relationship, a better job, more money, a newer car, or a bigger home.  The reality is that you don’t have to have any of those to be happy.  Happiness is a choice.

Let me share what I believe are the conditions that create happiness. First, you must have someone in your life who will affirm, appreciate, value and love you.  If you are in a job or relationship or workplace where that doesn't exist, then unless you are a masochist you should leave.  If you don’t, the price tag for finding happiness will go up.  Second, you must find something to do that you are interested in, curious about, and passionate about that gives meaning and purpose to your life.  Third, you must have something to look forward to every day that gives you hope.  Everyone needs some hope to cope.  Fourth, happiness is created when you are aligned and in harmony with your true self.

You will be better at everything you do when you are happy. Let this be a new season for happiness in your life. Don’t let anyone or anything pickpocket it.  You will prosper in ways you never dreamed possible when a positive attitude and happiness become a daily habit.   It was Herm Albright who said, “A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.”

Be contagious with your happiness and spread it to as many people as you can.
